Taiwanese envoy visits NTDC

‘Tourism grows small scale industries’ - Runsewe

The Director General Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC), Otunba Olusegun Runsewe has said that tourism promotion can help develop Small and Medium Scale industries especially in developing countries. This position was made known during a visit by the Representative and Head of Mission of Taiwan Trade Mission to Nigeria, Fu-Tien Liu during a Courtesy call to the DG in his office in Abuja.
The DG who emphasized that Nigerian government and Taiwan have always had a good working relationship, also stressed that this can be extended to tourism promotion which would fast track the development of Small and Medium Scale industries in both countries.
Earlier, Mr Fu-Tien Liu thanked Otunba Runsewe for the opportunity the visit provided while stating that the essence of the call is to promote a sustained partnership between Nigeria and Taiwan pointing out that the resources in both countries abound.
In his words, “There are a lot of things to showcase in Taiwan; Taiwan is a beautiful country with plenty of flowers”. He further stated that, “5 million people visited Taiwan last year. We expect more this year”.
The Ambassador seized the opportunity to invite the DG to visit Taiwan for the forthcoming Tourism/ Trade Expo scheduled for November, 2010 stating that a specific interest area should be identified in order to put things into perspective. He assured the NTDC Boss that the government of Taiwan would give him and his delegation a grand reception at Taipei during the visit and issues of mutual interest would be discussed for the benefit of both countries.
Responding, Otunba Runsewe assured the Taiwan Representative that he would visit the East Asian country after checking his itinerary and making all necessary arrangements.
The Head of Mission was accompanied on the visit by the Third Secretary, Mr. Roger Chen.
