ITB 2012: Nigeria prepares for memorable outing

Nigeria set to shine at ITB Berlin
Nigeria is poised for a colourful and impressive outing at this year’s Berlin, Germany-based ITB fair, given plans by the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) to parade the country’s enchanting tourism allurements to a global audience.

The 2012 world-famous annual tourism fiesta is billed to run from Wednesday, March 7 to the 11th in the German capital, and efforts to boost Nigeria’s presence at this year’s ITB includes the acquisition of a larger exhibition space for the Nigeria Pavilion.

Little by little, Nigeria’s grounds at ITB have been increasing steadily every year since 2007, after Otunba Olusegun Runsewe’s appointment as NTDC Director General.  For 2012 ITB, Nigeria Pavillion will cover all of 60sq metres, against 49sq metres used in 2011.

During a chat with reporters in Abuja, the NTDC DG enthused that one of the benefits of participating in ITB Berlin is the fact that exhibits at Nigeria’s Pavillion would offer prospective tourists the opportunity of knowing more about Nigeria prior to their visit.

Moreover, that presence could also invoke nostalgia among others that had visited Nigeria in the past, thus prompting more trips from such habitues or encouraging them to offer positive advice to prospective tourists wishing to come to the West African country for the first time.
